Preaching About God Effectively With A Biblical History Timeline

Unfortunately, a numerous preachers and Bible teachers in our churches continue to preach light weight, superficial, shallow, flimsy sermons and their Church members barely grow in biblical knowledge. Preachers love to give us’moral essays’ and’warming affirmations’ because supposedly, if we really love people this is what we will do. Regrettable it seems, if God’s men and women are falling through the cracks’for an absence of knowledge’ so long as we’re positive and loving to all. Truly, the more relevant we become to this world, the less relevant we’re to this world.

Why do we get stuck in a rut of our pet subjects and feel good preaching?

We preach on a text from Daniel and a passage about Moses and a topic from the book of Jeremiah and then the faith of Peter or the miracles through Paul – bits from here and there, but we do not put it all together in a plain understandable, simple to remember, perspective with a capable Bible TimeLine with Church History as well. Constantly we’re bombarded with new books, modernist ideas, a few of them hazardously leaning toward Progressive theology, when if we were to be coached the basic principles of Church history, we then wouldn’t be so bound to do the same again.

Let’s us as teachers and preachers stitch together the fragments of God’s Word and His plan into a complete picture that our people can draw on for the remainder of their lives, to help them to comprehend God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better interpret the Bible to order our lives by.

It’s not difficult to do, and it’s not boring if we’re ready to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can employ a Bible Timeline as well.

Preaching Scripture Effectively With A Biblical Timeline

In our weekly Bible class years ago, a lady who had been a Christian and been involved in the local Church for over 15 years, said,”Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about……” (they were not referring to the pre-Moses law) I wonder how many Christians will really notice the error in this assertion. Moses lived five hundred years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since then compiled a Biblical history timeline and shown more visually the dating of men and women and events.

Years ago, I was speaking on the life, burial, resurrection and death of Jesus Christ, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been a pastor for forty years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he stated 1Ti 1:4’Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.’ I quietly asked him if I had been preaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied”No”. I continued on to spell out that in the case of that particular Scripture, it was not referring to examining the Bible but to the false teaching and philosophy of Gnosticism, but he wouldn’t have it. Let me ask, how can a forty year preacher & worker in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that possibly half the books of the New Testament refer to?

How could he study and preach the Bible clearly without being aware of a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to understand their Bible properly, if they’re not informed?

Let’s us as tutors and preachers stitch together the aspects of God’s Word and God’s plan into a seamless tapestry that our people are able to draw on for the remainder of their lives, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and ways to better translate the Bible to live by.

It’s not hard to do, and it’s not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of effort prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can use a Bible Timeline also.

Teaching About God Powerfully Using A Biblical Timeline

In our Bible study years ago, a lady who had been a Christian and been involved in the local Church for years, made this statement,”Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about……” (they weren’t referring to the pre-Moses law) I wonder just how many Christians would actually notice the inaccuracy in this claim. Moses existed about five hundred years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since put together a Bible chronological banner and shown more visually the chronology of individuals and events.

Some time ago, I was teaching on the resurrection, life, burial and death of Jesus Christ, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of Scripture, who had been in the ministry for 40 years, came to me and reproved me vigorously over some interesting points I made and he noted 1Ti 1:4’Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.’ I humbly asked him if I was teaching anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he said”No”. I continued to describe that in the case of that particular verse, it was not speaking to examining Scripture but to the false teaching and philosophy of Gnosticism, but he wouldn’t accept it. So, how can a 40 year minister & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly 1/2 the books of the New Testament refer to?

How can he study and teach the Bible fully without being aware of something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to interpret their Bible properly, if they are not informed?

Teaching Through The Bible More Effectively Using A Biblical Bible Timeline Poster

In our Sunday Bible class years ago, a lady who had been a Christian and worked in the Church for years, said,”Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about……” (they were not talking about the pre-mosaic law) I wonder just how many Christians will really notice the inaccuracy in this claim. Moses lived some 500 years after Abraham and so it is an impossibility. I have since then compiled a Biblical history timeline and explained in a more graphic way the chronology of people and events.

Why is it that we get stuck in a rut of our favorite themes and sugar coated preaching?

We instruct on a text from Haggai and a passage about Hezekiah and a theme from the book of Hebrews and then the faith of Solomon or the miracles of Jesus – parts from here and there, but we do not put it all together in a plain understandable, simple to remember, perspective with a good Bible TimeLine with Church History as well. Constantly we are bombarded with new books, modernist ideas, some of them perilously edging toward Liberal thinking, but if we could be coached the basics of Church history, we then would not be so doomed to repeat it.

Let’s us as tutors and preachers stitch together the aspects of the Bible and His plan into a seamless tapestry that our people can draw on for the remainder of their lives, helping them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
